Author Guidelines

Before you submit your manuscript, it’s important you read and follow the guidelines below.

Manuscript Requirements

  • Format: Article files should be provided in Microsoft Word format. While you are welcome to submit a PDF of the document alongside the Word file, PDFs alone are not acceptable. LaTeX files can also be used but only if an accompanying PDF document is provided.
  • Article Length/Word Count:  Articles should be between 5000 to 7000 words in length. This includes all text for example, excluding references and appendices.
  • Authors Details: The names of all contributing authors should be added to the submission of the manuscript; please list them in the order in which you’d like them to be published. Every paper submission should have the first page as the title page, which should contain the paper title, author's name, institutional affiliation(s), email address, full postal address, telephone and mobile number, and very brief profile (maximum 50 words) of each author. In multi-authored papers, it’s important that ALL authors that have made a significant contribution to the paper are listed. Those who have provided support but have not contributed to the research should be featured in an acknowledgements section.
  • Each contributing author will need their own Orchid ID. Don't forget to add your Orchid ID during the submission process in the manuscript. It will be embedded in your published article, along with a link to the ORCiD registry allowing others to easily match you with your work. Don’t have one yet? It only takes a few moments to register for a free ORCiD identifier.
  • Keywords: Your submission should include up to 5 – 6 appropriate and short keywords that capture the principal topics of the paper, placed immediately below the abstract.
  • Article Classification: During the submission process, you will be asked to select a type for your paper; the options are: Research Paper, Review Paper, Conceptual Paper, Case study, Book Review, and Grounded theory research
  • If there are two or more authors, it must indicate which author will handle the correspondence. The number of authors should be limited to six (6) only.
  • Article Title: A concisely worded title should be provided.
  • Submission of a paper to the journal will be taken to imply that it represents not any previously published work but an original work, that it is not being considered elsewhere for publication, and that if accepted for publication, it will not be published anywhere without the consent of the Editor-in-Chief of the Editorial Team. Furthermore, the papers so received are subject to approval by the editorial team; however, the ideas and opinions expressed in the papers published in the journal are solely those of the author(s).
  • Disclaimer: The contents of papers in no way represent the views and policies of the NJISS or those of the editors.
  • Please use Times New Roman 12-point type (not “Times” or other font choice) and the 8 1⁄2 ×11-page (Letter) setting. Files should be Word documents, with body text double-spaced. Section headings and subheadings should be set to 1.5 spacing. Top and side margins should be set at 1 inch (using Word’s Normal margin setting). Neither page numbers nor running heads are necessary and should not be included in your document.
  • In the context of quantitative papers, the main body of the paper should be provided with mathematical proofs and calculations that justify the issue of the paper. Lengthy mathematical works and more extensive, detailed tables, if any, should be placed in appendices.
  • Tables/Figures/Charts must be in an editable format. Tables and figures must be numbered with captions and brief descriptions. Tables/Figures/Charts, if possible, should be created in MS Word. All the tables/figures/charts must be numbered and set flush left. On a new line, one should give title for the table/figures/charts. If necessary, provide tables/figures/charts notes right below the table/figures/charts. Numbers related to tables/figures/charts should be in double space but contents within the tables should be single spaced.
  • Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals (Table 1, 2 or Figure 1, 2).
  • Notes/endnotes: Notes or endnotes should only be used if absolutely necessary. They should be identified in the text by consecutive numbers enclosed in square brackets. These numbers should then be listed, and explained, at the end of the article.
  • The article text should be justified. In-text citations, references, tables, and figures should strictly follow the latest version of the of the APA format. Authors should not use automatic formatting; it is non-editable and not acceptable.
  • References should be listed alphabetically.
  • Accepted articles will be copy edited prior to final publication. Authors will be contacted to review edits in page proofs. NJISS journal editorial office will email the contact author after the Editor assigns the article to an issue.
  • Research Funding: Your article must reference all sources of external research funding in the acknowledgements section. You should describe the role of the funder or financial sponsor in the entire research process, from study design to submission.
